U.S. Forces Intercept Iranian Oil Tankers, Recent reports indicate that the U.S. military has intercepted three Iranian-flagged oil tankers in Asian waters, redirecting them from their positions near India, Malaysia, and Sri Lanka. This action follows a blockade imposed by Washington on Iranian maritime trade, as tensions remain high between the U.S. and Iran, particularly following Iran’s recent attacks on vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.

The ongoing conflict, which has intensified since the start of military operations by the U.S. and Israel against Iran nearly two months ago, shows no signs of easing, with peace talks remaining stalled even during a fragile ceasefire. The closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical conduit for global oil and gas supplies, has significantly disrupted the flow of approximately 20% of the world’s energy resources, contributing to a worldwide energy crisis.

In recent days, U.S. forces have seized an Iranian cargo ship and an oil tanker, while Iran reported capturing two container ships as they attempted to navigate out of the Gulf. The latest interceptions of Iranian-flagged tankers involved the supertanker Deep Sea, which was partially loaded with crude and last tracked off Malaysia’s coast. Another intercepted vessel, the Sevin, had a capacity of 1 million barrels and was carrying 65% of its load when last spotted off Malaysia.

Additionally, the supertanker Dorena was intercepted while fully loaded with 2 million barrels of crude, having been monitored off southern India’s coast just three days prior. According to maritime security sources, U.S. military efforts are currently focused on targeting Iranian vessels in open waters, steering clear of potential hazards from floating mines in the Strait of Hormuz.
